boatpartySummer tunes and BBQs are almost upon us. Soon the lakes will be full of people soaking up the sun and having a jolly good time. While some people have a need for speed, a boat offers up a relaxing time and is great for parties. We are talking about the pontoon boat. This big boat might be shunned upon by the younger crowd, but what better way to party on the water. Let’s take a look at a few tips for planning that first boat party of the year:

  • First and foremost, get that guest count down. This will vary depending on the location and the size of the boat. Will you be docked and have more room available, or will you be taking the party out on the water. Don’t cram that pontoon boat chock full of people. They need room to roam and mingle.
  • Plan transportation to your boat. If this is a weekend long festivity, then people from out of town might be coming in. Do you need to pick them up from the airport? You will also want to make sure there is enough parking for both cars and boats. Yeah, parking for boats. Some people might be showing up driving their own watercraft. Make sure you can accommodate them as well. It is just not as much fun having to anchor off shore and swim into the party.
  • Theme parties are not just for kids anymore. Adults can enjoy some themed parties as well. Mardi Gras is always a popular theme. If the party is happening around a major holiday, the theme can be as easy as celebrating that holiday. The theme can even be as simple as a Flip Flop cruise. Everyone on the boat has to be wearing flip-flops.
  • What would a party be without the food? Now that you know how many guests are coming, along with a possible them, it is time to plan to food. Maybe you could let all the in-town guests bring some food to share. The bigger question will be are you going to grill on the boat. This is both fun and dangerous. Hot coals on a moving boat could lead to your boat insurance agent having a heart attack. Try to keep the grilling to a land based activity.
  • Lastly, and most importantly, make sure your pontoon is ready to go. Did you make sure you had a full gas tank before heading out? Nothing will kill the mood more than handing out some ores for people to row home with. Is your boat registration and insurance up to date? Cops will end a party faster than a torrential down poor.

These are just some starter ideas to get you going. Planning your party now will make it easier, quicker, and a lot less stressful for when the time comes. You cannot control the weather, but you can help control the turnout of a great party. So get that pontoon boat ready, it is time to party!
