Oh, sweet summer, how we missed you! That happy time of water sports and BBQs is fast approaching. So how do you make a Saturday on the lake that much more enjoyable? We are going to give you a few tips to make that day on the lake fun. So get out that grill and cooler, because it’s time to hit the lake.

Know who’s going

The biggest part of planning a day on the water is to know who is coming to party with you. You should know if kids would be involved in the day’s festivities. There is nothing wrong with having kids at the party, but it just might change up your plans a bit. You might need to spend some time coming up with some creative kids activities.

Knowing how many people that are coming will also give you an idea on how much beach you are going to need. This is a big deal if there are going to be multiple boats involved. Trying to keep everyone as close together is way more fun than dropping anchor a mile off shore.

Plan your food accordingly

Spending a day on the water also means there will be sweet summer eats. Who is going to bring the grill to cook up those weenies and burgers? Not everyone will enjoy uncooked burger.

What cold food will there be? How many coolers are going to be brought along? Don’t forget to pack enough ice to keep those brews frosty cold.

Drinks should also include something more than just good beer. You will most likely be in the sun all day. Drunk driving applies to boats as well. If you are going to drive the boat, don’t drink. Besides, laughing at people in their drunken haze can be almost, if not more, as fun. Your boaters insurance will thank you for not driving your boat into a tree as well!

Know the people with you

You should really know everyone that is with you. At the very least, know who is going to be joining you on your boat of pleasure. You might have someone go off the boat due to some horseplay. You want to know if that person can swim. Being a hero might be cool, but someone almost drowning on a day of fun is not so awesome.

This becomes very impotent with children. Before you go tossing the young padawan into the lake, make sure they can swim. Make sure they have a life jacket that fits before you drag them behind your boat on a tube.

Don’t take the day too seriously

You can’t control everything. Plan the best you can, but most importantly, plan to have fun. The weather might turn to crap, or you might have mechanical issues at some point. Take it all with a grain of salt. Making the best of any situation is what makes you the beacon of party people!

Simple planning and preparation is all you need to make a day at the lake enjoyable. Make sure your boat is up to snuff and your boat insurance is paid up. Then all you need to worry about is what beer goes best with burgers and brats!
